Whether your camera’s main function is scratching your photographic itch, or to pay the bills, the importance this camera holds in your life is great. Gabriel Mann, Californian Film-Maker, shares his relationship with his camera, and why it is such an important possession in his life.
Our opening scene featured Gabriel Mann, his passion for photography, is a perfect match, as to why you are in good hands at Digicam.
“In some ways, the camera is the most important invention of our age. It captures moments in time in a way that no story, no painting, no speech can ever touch. The camera doesn’t lie. It can’t exaggerate. It can’t forget. It records pure truth and preserves it forever. For me, as an artist, my gear is my passion and it is my livelihood. It also happens to be an incredibly and prohibitively expensive passion. So the longevity of my $10,000 camera purchase is extremely important.
I can only refinance my mortgage so many times. But, with this great price tag, comes great opportunity. My career is extremely lucrative. My clients risk a lot of money to pay me to capture their wedding day, their newborn baby, a movie star who costs a production $100,000 a day. My gear simply has to work. One cannot have downtime in my line of work. You have to capture the moment properly every time. And when you do, the rewards can be life-changing. I invest a lot in maintaining my gear, because without it I have nothing. It is worth the effort and the money.”
